For millions across the Midwest and beyond, Family Video was more than a place to rent movies. It was a Friday-night ritual, a neighborhood gathering place, and a symbol of how family values and business could thrive side by side.
In Family Video: The Story of America’s First Video Chain and the Family Who Built It, Keith Hoogland—third-generation leader of the former largest privately owned video rental chain in the United States—shares the deeply personal story behind the iconic brand. Part business history, part family memoir, the book captures a legacy that shaped communities for decades.
To bring this story to life in a lasting, meaningful format, Keith partnered with Jenkins Group for a custom, high-quality publishing experience.
A Story of Resilience, Family, and Community
From humble beginnings in a Springfield warehouse to a nationwide chain with more than 800 locations, Family Video tells the story of perseverance in an ever-changing industry. While competitors like Blockbuster fell, Family Video endured—anchored by relationships, adaptability, and a people-first philosophy.
This book is not just about business success. It’s about the employees who became extended family, the customers who shared generations of memories, and a father whose leadership and values continue to shape the future. Keith Hoogland opens the doors not only to the stores themselves, but to the heart of what made Family Video a beloved part of so many communities.
Printed as a hardcover 6” x 9” edition, this project was designed to honor the story with the same care and craftsmanship that defined the Family Video brand.
